Histological differences in the liver
The images below show Masson's trichrome staining of the liver from mice fed either a normal chow or a high fat diet. The dark red shows nuclear staining and the lighter red/pink shows keratin and cytoplasmic staining. The blue shows the staining of collagen. There are a number of signature characteristics that allow you to histologically identify the liver obtained from animals fed either chow or a high fat diet.
